MKP Asks Former Spokesperson Ndhlela to Return Party Property and Access Card

Durban – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has officially expelled former spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela from the party led by ex-president Jacob Zuma.

After Ndhlela’s dismissal as spokesperson, the MKP announced his suspension from membership, his removal from the position of MP, and that he is required to return all party property in his possession within seven days.

Ndhlela was removed from his spokesperson position following a controversial media statement regarding the formation of the MK Institute, which he claimed would take full control of the party’s leadership structures.

The party leadership deemed the statement to be “null and void,” declaring it unconstitutional, which resulted in his immediate termination.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, MKP National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko dispatched a letter to Ndhlela detailing the sanctions.

“This letter serves to formally inform you that President Jacob Zuma has decided to suspend your party membership effective immediately, pending an investigation,” Nhleko wrote.

“This decision is due to allegations of misconduct, creating division, and damaging the party’s reputation.”

The letter, reviewed by The Bulrushes, further stated: “Pending the outcome of the investigation, you are instructed not to represent the party in any official capacity and are prohibited from accessing or operating any MKP social media and public accounts, bank accounts, or digital platforms; you must return all party property, including but not limited to documents, devices, membership card, passwords, and access credentials, to the Office of the Secretary-General within seven days of this notice.”

Ndhlela, who was quickly succeeded as MKP spokesperson by former The Star newspaper editor Sifisumusa Mahlangu, has not yet made any public comment regarding his situation.
