Polokwane – The Limpopo South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Choir has been celebrated as the Overall Champions in the Large Category at the prestigious 6th Dr SJ Khosa Choral Music Eisteddfod.
This achievement highlights a remarkable performance that showcased musical talent, discipline, and collaboration.
The festivities began with a Gala Dinner at Khoroni Hotel in Thohoyandou on the evening of Friday, 24 July 2026. This was followed by the Dr SJ Khosa Choral Music Festival at Malamulele Community Hall, gathering choirs from all over South Africa to honor choral music, culture, and social unity.
Under the leadership of Captain Moraka Mokgolo, the SAPS Provincial Choir competed in two categories, securing fourth place in the Prescribed Piece and clinching first place in the Own Choice Piece.
Their combined scores propelled them to the pinnacle of the Large Category, earning them the esteemed championship title.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, commended the choir for their remarkable success.
He described this victory as a reflection of the discipline, unity, and commitment that defines SAPS members.
“This win is for every choir member who dedicated their time and skill to represent Limpopo SAPS with distinction,” Major General Scheepers remarked.
“It illustrates that the values of discipline, teamwork, and excellence that drive our policing efforts also lead to achievements beyond our official roles.
“We take great pride in this accomplishment.”
Major General Scheepers also expressed gratitude to the Dr SJ Khosa Choral Music Eisteddfod Organising Committee, Vhembe District Municipality, and Collins Chabane Local Municipality for establishing a platform that fosters cultural heritage, social cohesion, and community solidarity through music.

The choir’s recent victory reinforces the Limpopo SAPS Choir’s reputation for excellence.
