SETA Sponsors 50 South African Students for E-Commerce Programs in China
Johannesburg – A selected group of 50 South African students is preparing to journey to China for e-commerce studies.
These graduates, handpicked from 21 Technical, Vocational and Education Training (TVET) colleges, will receive e-commerce training while gaining international insights into retail standards and market dynamics.
The students are set to leave OR Tambo International Airport on Monday, January 12, 2026, to participate in a fully-funded one-year e-commerce program backed by the Wholesale and Retail SETA (W&RSETA).
In a statement released on Friday, January 9, 2026, W&RSETA Spokesperson Vukani Mnyandu emphasized that the initiative aims to empower South African youth in digital commerce, nurturing an entrepreneurial spirit, especially within the retail sector.
“This training is organized by W&RSETA in partnership with the Chinese Culture and International Education Exchange Centre (CCIEEC),” Mnyandu clarified.
The program began in 2023, with an initial cohort of 82 TVET college graduates completing the training and returning to South Africa in May 2025.
This e-commerce program, developed in collaboration with CCIEEC, is part of W&RSETA’s extensive international initiative.
W&RSETA selects students annually, facilitates their education at foreign higher education institutions, and ensures they gain experience with global retail companies to enhance their business management skills and competitiveness.
