Visual Journalist Sebabatso Mosamo Dies in Hospital After Week-Long Ailment
Johannesburg – Visual Journalist Sebabatso Mosamo has sadly passed away at the age of 39.
As stated by her employer, the Associated Press (AP), Mosamo passed away in a Johannesburg hospital on Saturday after falling ill the previous week.
A family spokesperson mentioned that the AP reported, “No cause of death was immediately disclosed.”
Mosamo’s family issued a statement saying, “We are at a loss for words, and our hearts are shattered.
“She took great pride in her work and family,” they further shared.
The AP emphasized that Mosamo covered elections in South Africa, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the ongoing issues with poverty and violence in the nation.
Colleagues and friends affectionately called her “Sebs.” She joined the AP in 2021 after working with several notable South African news outlets, using photos and videos to convey heartfelt stories about people in her country and continent.
Current and former colleagues described her as fearless and always eager to advocate for her beliefs. This year, she was selected for an internal leadership program for AP employees.
“It would have been incredible to witness her continue on her remarkable journey as an impactful journalist. It is heartbreaking that we will not,” remarked Andrew Drake, AP’s deputy director of news for Africa.
