Bail Approved for ‘Mute’ Constable Who Observed Chesnay Kepler Murder Case

Johannesburg – Constable Llewelyn Meyers, arrested for allegedly witnessing the fatal shooting of Crime Warden Chesnay Kepler and not reporting it, has been granted bail.

Constable Meyers, taken into custody last week, appeared in court alongside his co-accused, Sergeant Buthelezi.

Besides failing to report the incident, Constable Meyers also faces charges of attempted murder and assault.

Sergeant Buthelezi, who is also out on bail, is alleged to have fatally shot his girlfriend, Kepler, last December.

Sergeant Buthelezi is charged with murder.

Both officers are currently assigned to the Eldorado Police Station.

Their case has been rescheduled for pre-trial on 11 September 2025 at the Johannesburg High Court.
