Chiefs Set to Waive Nine Players

Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for significant transformations, as nine players are set to leave the Soweto club starting this week, according to Sportswire.

This change follows a meeting of the club’s internal review committee, which was initiated due to a challenging and ultimately disappointing 2024/25 season in the Betway Premiership.

In response to these challenges, Chiefs have already released Ranga Chivaviro and Sabelo Radebe, both identified as underperformers. Radebe, in particular, returned from a loan at Richards Bay after failing to secure a position in their lineup. Following his return, Chiefs chose to let go of the academy graduate, who struggled to leave a notable impact.

Njabulo Blom is on track to return to St. Louis City SC in the USA after a loan period that saw limited playing time.

Sportswire has reported that Chiefs intend to release Edmilson Dove, whose contract with the Naturena-based team is set to expire at the end of June. The club has no plans to retain the Mozambican international fullback.

Another player under consideration is Reeve Frosler, whose contract also concludes this month. However, reports indicate that the swift defender is likely to continue with Chiefs beyond June.

Club captain Yusuf Maart has experienced a tumultuous season with fans, yet he redeemed himself by scoring the winning goal in the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 10, ending the club’s ten-year trophy drought.

Other players with contracts expiring this month include Edson Castillo, who suffered a serious injury last season, along with George Matlou and Mduduzi Shabalala. Shabalala, who had a strong start to the season and is a nominee for PSL Goal of the Season for his impressive strike against Chippa United, is anticipated to remain with the team.

Recognizing the necessity for change, Chiefs have stated, “These players are not good enough.” The club must actively engage in the transfer market to acquire quality players, especially in light of their upcoming participation in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, following their Nedbank Cup victory.

Under coach Nasreddine Nabi, they aim to make a substantial impact in that competition, a target established by the club for the Tunisian coach.
