Temporary Closure of Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant Affects Region 7 Communities
Pretoria – The Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant is currently “temporarily offline” due to a decline in raw water quality, which has been affected by increased cloudiness from recent heavy rainfall.
The City of Tshwane announced on Tuesday, (4 March 2025), “Our technicians are carefully monitoring the situation and the plant will restart its operations as soon as the water quality has improved.”
The areas impacted in Region 7 include:
- Bronkhorstspruit Town
- Ekandustria
- Ekangala
- Rethabiseng
- Riamarpark
- Thembisile Hani Local Municipality (cross-border water supply)
- Zithobeni
The City of Tshwane confirmed that water tankers will be deployed to serve all affected areas.
