Eskom Issues Alert: High Risk of Load-Shedding Following Shutdown of 6 Generation Units
Johannesburg – Eskom has issued an “urgent alert” regarding a significant risk of load-shedding on Monday evening with little notice, due to multiple failures of generation units.
Eskom announced, “In the last 12 hours, six generation units have been taken offline, creating substantial pressure on the power system and necessitating the use of emergency reserves.”
“Should an additional 800MW be lost, Eskom will be forced to enforce Stage 2 load-shedding on short notice.”
Eskom has indicated that efforts are being made to bring seven generation units back into service between the evening peak and Tuesday evening.
“Our teams are actively monitoring the situation, and further updates will be shared at 22:00 or sooner if needed,” Eskom stated.
