Attack on Putco Buses: 51 Vehicles Burned, 2 Accused Held in Custody

Siyabuswa – Two suspects, 37-year-old Luthando Skosana and 29-year-old Isaac Mabena, accused of setting fire to 51 buses across four Putco depots, have been ordered to remain in custody.

The accused appeared at the Mdutjana Magistrate’s Court located in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga.

Skosana and Mabena were in court on Thursday, 6 February 2025.

The arson incidents occurred on the evening of 27 January 2025.

Authorities reported that during their apprehension, the suspects were found in possession of an illegal firearm and a cellphone belonging to an employee from one of the Putco depots.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the two suspects are scheduled to appear in court again next week on Thursday, 13 February 2025.
