Firefighter in Tshwane injured during battle with blaze at brewery
A firefighter suffered a serious leg injury while responding to a large fire at the Phelindaba Brewery close to Atteridgeville on Saturday.
Emergency services, including teams from Central, Philip Nel Park, and Atteridgeville, were called to the site to battle the blaze.

Attempts to Control the Blaze
According to Emergency Services spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni, the fire consumed the brewery’s decanting area and spread to the canteen building.
Firefighters initiated aggressive tactics to manage the flames and safeguard nearby properties.

“By 18:22, the fire in the canteen was mostly contained, while the blaze in the decanting area was brought under control by 18:49,” Mnguni stated. However, the roof collapsed during the ongoing operation, complicating matters further.
Given the presence of hazardous materials such as caustic soda, additional support, including foam tenders and a hazardous materials unit, was sent to the location. The fire was fully extinguished by Sunday morning.
Injury to Firefighter
During the operation, a firefighter slipped and incurred a serious leg injury. He is currently undergoing medical treatment.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with authorities assessing the extent of the damage.
