Erling Haaland Calls His £260 Million Man City Contract ‘Incredible’ After Signing Record-Breaking Ten-Year Deal in Premier League
ERLING HAALAND admits that his extraordinary £260 million, TEN-YEAR deal with Manchester City feels “surreal.”
The Norwegian superstar, 24, is poised to pocket at least £500,000 every week BEFORE bonuses, marking the biggest contract in Premier League history, which will keep him at the Etihad until 2034.
Haaland has also eliminated the release clauses from his previous contract, originally set to expire in 2027, obstructing long-time admirers Real Madrid and Barcelona from acquiring the striker at a lower price.
Additionally, City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his surprise when the director of football, Txiki Begiristain, informed him about the impressive length of the mega-contract.
Haaland mentioned: “It’s a bit surreal, but I like a touch of the surreal, so it’s all good for me.”
“It’s a significant milestone, and I’m very happy — it was an easy decision.”
SunSport reported on November 21 that securing Haaland’s future was City’s top priority after extending Guardiola’s contract for two additional years.
Haaland joined from Borussia Dortmund for £51.4 million in 2022 and has scored an astonishing 111 goals in 126 appearances.
His contract surpasses the nine-year agreements signed by Chelsea players Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, and Nicolas Jackson.
Haaland further noted: “Now I can completely focus on enhancing my game since I’ll be here for such a long time.”
“Over the last 2½ years with City, I’ve been winning numerous trophies, playing exceptional football, and enjoying amazing experiences.
“City is a fantastic club, filled with wonderful people and incredible fans.
Erling Haaland shares insights on his contract extension with Man City until 2034
“I want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club for their unwavering support.”
Haaland, who welcomed his first child last month, has secured the Premier League’s Golden Boot for the last two seasons.
During the 2022-23 season, he scored 52 goals across all competitions, helping City achieve a historic Treble, and followed that with 38 goals in the subsequent season.
This season, he has already scored 21 goals and aims to expand his tally against Ipswich tomorrow.
Pep admitted he was astonished when he learned about the contract’s length.
He stated: “I asked Txiki to say it again, and he confirmed, ‘Ten’. I thought, ‘Are you sure?’ He affirmed, ‘Yes’.
“This is fantastic news for all of us. He’s making me a better coach.
“He perceives there’s no better place for him to be in the next ten years.
“That’s precisely why he and his family made this choice.”
Meanwhile, striker Omar Marmoush was left out of Eintracht Frankfurt’s squad for their 2-0 win over Dortmund on Friday night as he prepares for his transfer to City in a deal worth up to £67 million.
