Businessman Kishene Chetty and 12 Others Accused of SAPS Toner Tender Fraud
Pretoria – The case involving businessman Kishene Chetty, which includes forgery, uttering, and fraud related to a questionable R800,000 tender for police toners, has been postponed by the Pretoria Regional Court.
On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the regional court announced to Chetty and 12 other defendants that their case has been rescheduled to March 24, 2025, pending a decision on a high court application.
The defendants have requested the high court to consolidate their police tender fraud case with another corruption charge they are facing.
They are accused of various crimes, such as forgery, uttering, fraud, and theft related to toners procurement for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape Province.
This incident reportedly occurred in 2015, leading to a loss of over R800,000 for SAPS.
Some SAPS officials are among the accused.
Investigations have shown that several police officers are suspected of colluding with the implicated companies to secure the tender, despite knowing that these companies had submitted false documentation.
The companies mentioned in this case are Bambanani Marketing and Projects, Baroma Construction and Office Consumables, Super Stationery Distributors, Sifikile Furniture and Projects, as well as Vatika and Projects.
“IDAC Spokesperson Henry Mamothame stated that investigations carried out by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) have resulted in additional charges against Chetty for other alleged corruption cases involving millions within the SAPS,”
