Liz Prins confronts Bev Steyn over race remark
Reality star Liz Prins confronted Bev Steyn over her racial remarks on the latest episode of Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip South Africa, which released on Showmax on Monday 22 July.
On the latest episode of Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip South Africa, Liz Prins confronted Bev Steyn over comments she made about her race. The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip South Africa saw several South African housewives, from different franchises spend two weeks together in Jamaica.
Liz comes from the Real Housewives of Gqeberha and Bev from Real Housewives of Cape Town. The duo went into the water on little boats to talk about the racial conversation. Liz expressed that she was so angry at Bev for her comments. Bev had said that she had to remind herself that Liz is coloured, and not a white woman.
“I get really hurt when people talk about such issues, racism, I don’t like it. it is not nice. Just see people as we are, you know. I don’t like the fact that you said, when I see Liz I have to remind myself of who she is,” said Liz.
Bev then admitted to saying she had to remind herself about Liz’s race, and admitted that it did not come out right. She then explained her upbringing and why she thinks the way she does.
“I’ve been programmed to think a certain way. It’s no excuse, I’m not trying to make excuses, I take accountability for what I said. I am deeply regretful for what I said. But I cannot take it back,” she said.
The ladies then talked it out and reconciled their friendship.
Mel Viljoen revealed comments made by Bev about Liz on a previous episode of Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip South Africa. Mel said that Bev told her she is so shocked when Liz “runs after black men.”
“Now that we are mentioning things that we say about each other, behind each other’s back. And about this whole race situation. I wanted to tell Liz something,” said Mel Viljoen at the dinner table.
“Bev actually three times said that she is so shocked… she cannot believe every time you go after a black man. You are mos a white woman, but she forgets no you are less than white, you are coloured. She referred to the skin colour actually, she said white girls wouldn’t do that,” she continued.
