Northern Cape first province to finish counting live

The Northern Cape province was the first of South Africa’s nine to finish the counting of votes on Friday.

No surprise perhaps seeing as though it is the smallest province – in terms of voters.

All 730 voting districts in the province completed their counting late on Friday afternoon.

The results were as follows:

Meanwhile, former president Jacob Zuma and his newly-formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party have made the biggest splash in this year’s national election.

In terms of the overall picture at 17:00 on Friday, 31 May, 16 607 of 23 293 voting districts have completed counting (71.3%) with a total of 10 469 718 votes counted.

The ANC leads the way with 4 307 701 votes (41.70%), followed by the DA (2 318 020 votes for 22.44%) with the MK party in third (1 279 284 votes at 12.38%).

The EFF has slipped to fourth place with 978 125 votes (9.47%).

As a reminder, in the 2019 elections the ANC finished top with 57.5% of the total vote.

KwaZulu-Natal

Votes counted: 2 687 of 4 974 voting districts

Percentage – 54.02%

1. MK party – 44.22%

2. ANC – 18.85%

3. IFP – 16.24%

Western Cape

Votes counted: 1 270 of 1 572 voting districts

Percentage – 80.79%

1. DA – 53.20%

2. ANC – 20.25%

3. PA – 8.59%

Gauteng

Votes counted: 1 611 of 2 797 voting districts

Percentage – 57.60%

1. ANC – 35.34%

2. DA – 27.81%

3. EFF – 12.37%

Eastern Cape

Votes counted: 3 867 of 4 868 voting districts

Percentage – 79.34%

1. ANC – 65.44%

2. DA – 12.21%

3. EFF – 9.94%

Limpopo

Votes counted: 1 867 of 3 216 voting districts

Percentage – 56.47%

1. ANC – 75.94%

2. EFF – 11.59%

3. DA – 5.77%

Mpumalanga

Votes counted: 1 252 of 1 811 voting districts

Percentage – 69.13%

1. ANC – 50.58%
