A post-closing fire has led to the temporary closure of the Khayelitsha Library in the City of Cape Town. The incident occurred on 1 February, with an apparent explosion heard in the server room shortly before the blaze erupted. The librarian in charge and a vigilant security guard quickly responded to the situation. Nearby community members, gearing up for a meeting in the adjacent hall, rushed to assist. Swift action from firefighters contained and extinguished the fire within minutes. Fortunately, no patrons or staff were inside the building when the incident unfolded. The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross, expressed gratitude to both residents and firefighters.
