1978 | South African journalist and beauty queen, Margaret Gardiner crowned 27th Miss Universe.
2014 | Air Algérie Flight 5017 lost contact with air traffic controllers 50 minutes after takeoff. It was traveling between Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and Algiers. The remains were later found in Mali. All 116 people on board were killed.
2013 | A high-speed train derailed in Spain rounding a curve with a speed limit of 80 km/h (50 mph) at 190 km/h (120 mph), killing 78 passengers.
1987 | The American oil tanker SS Bridgeton collided with mines laid by the IRGC and caused a 43m2 crack in the body of the oil tanker.
