White House told FDA chief to authorize vaccine or resign: report

White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on Friday told FDA chief Stephen Hahn to resign if the agency does not clear the nation’s first coronavirus vaccine by day’s end, the Washington Post reported. The Post said the threat came the same day that President Donald Trump tweeted that the FDA is “a big, old, slow turtle” in its handling of vaccines. The FDA said Friday it plans to finalize and issue an emergency use authorization to BioNTech

experimental COVID-19 vaccine. If the vaccine is authorized, it will be the first COVID-19 vaccine to be made available to Americans outside of clinical trials. The Post said the White House declined to comment.
