GM to hire 3,000 new workers in tech push
General Motors Co.
GM,
said Monday it will hire 3,000 new employees through the first quarter of 2021 to “help transform the future of product development and software as a service.” The new hires will come from engineering, design and IT fields, showing the company’s commitment to further develop software and become “a software expertise-driven workforce,” GM said. The car maker surprised Wall Street last week with a third-quarter profit well above expectations and sales that were slightly better than forecast. GM executives said they expect to restore the company’s dividend by mid-2021. Shares of GM have gained nearly 8% so far this year, compared with gains around 11% for the S&P 500 index.
